Richmond Mid-Year Gathering
12-15 OCT 2000

The 2000 CSA Mid-Year Gathering was recently held 12-15 OCT 2000 in Richmond, Va. The Gathering was hosted by Gen Peter W. W. Powell at the Omni Richmond Hotel. Approximately 35 CSA members (including 7 Generals) gathered together for a weekend of Confederate Philatelic Fun and Fellowship. The members met in a meeting room in the hotel all day Friday and in the morning on Saturday to view collections, exchange information, and also do a little trading. Col Jim Monroe showed his newly discovered Gen Robert E. Lee Field Cover which is a major new find. There will be an article on this and other Lee covers by Col Monroe in the Confederate Philatelist in the near future. Saturday afternoon was taken up by a historic bus tour of Richmond which visted the Tredegar Iron Works, Hollywood Cemetary, and other locations. Saturday evening Peter and Ethel hosted a cocktail party for the members in their fabulous home. Our thanks to Gen Powell and his wife Ethel for hosting the event.
