In the last issue of Stamp and Cover Collectors Review August Dietz stated that an addenda to his catalog would continue to be issued in the form of a bulletin sent to Confederate collectors. For this he charged a small fee to cover printing and postage expenses. The first bulletin was issued in early 1940 with the name the Confederate Bulletin (CB). Although not a publication of the Alliance, it was aimed at its members. The masthead described it as a leaflet in the “interests of collectors and students of the postal issues” of the Confederacy. Certainly the subscribers included Confederate collectors who were not Alliance members.
Starting with issue number 10 (November 1944) the phrase “Official Organ of the Confederate Stamp Alliance” was added above the masthead of the CB. This probably meant the CB would contain information about the Alliance and its members and the content reflects this. However, there is no record of the CB ever being an official publication of the Alliance. It remained under the ownership and control of Dietz.
In addition to serving as a vehicle for Dietz to update his Confederate catalog the CB also included information on new discoveries in the field of Confederates. It also included a series of articles on the fakes of the general issues.
Issues of the CB were four pages except Number 23 which contained a two page supplement. The CB was published irregularly from 1940 to 1952.
