Stamp Catalogs

This section contains a selection of early catalogs that included Confederate stamps and provisionals. This information may be useful to researchers doing work in this early period.

The catalogs before 1870 contained only very basic listings of the general issues and some provisionals. During the 1870’s some catalogs included more comprehensive listings of provisional with illustrations. The best were those by Edward L. Pemberton. In the 1890’s and early 1900’s several catalogs appeared with extensive illustrated listings of provisionals. The best of these is the catalog by Henry Collin and Henry L. Calman.

Many of the catalogs are quite large and only a few pages list Confederates. For easy access to the Confederate material the catalogs are bookmarked. Just click on a topic in the left panel.

Some full catalogs are large files and may take some time to load.

Unless otherwise noted these catalogs are courtesy of the Crawford Library.
